Agl is the worst company ever. I’ve never felt so let down by a company in life as I do right now.
The way they treat their customers is disgraceful.
We moved interstate, and had an outstanding bill with them. When we connected the power at our new place we had them set a forwarding address on the old location.
We never received the old account, and forgot about it.
They have since passed it onto a debt collection agency. We only found out when we called up query it later on.
Who’s the debt collection agency? They cant tell me?
They had TWO mobile numbers linked to the account, but didnt call EITHER! When I asked them why they explained that they dont call us, we have to call them.
Thanks AGL. I’ll be switching ASAP.
The worst part is there is no one at AGL who will listen. They put you through to a “Manager” who just tells you “thats how we operate”.
We’ve been waiting for a bill from AGL for 17mths now… here’s the story.
Joined AGL in March 08 and received a nice welcome letter from them.
After a few months of no bill we rang and was told it was coming. Checked address was correct.
After another quarter still no bill and they said they would fix it. Problem with computer probably.
More time passes…… no bill, no bil, no bill… told by AGL don’t worry when you get the bill you have extended time to pay. Admit they haven’t been getting readings but they’ll fix it.
13/7/09 – Still no bill – rang again and told our account was cancelled. Why? Because they couldn’t transfer our address from the last provider. Also admit that this information was listed on the notes on file last time we called!!! They gave us Energex number to ring and find out who our biller is…. thanks AGL
Rang Energex but that wasn’t the right number either – got onto someone that could tell us that we are registered with Intergral.
Rang Intergral and joined them …. officially… and are expecting a bill within days….. we hope.
14/7/09 Received a letter at my parent’s house – addressed to us – letting us know that our charges would be going up and thanks for our business. AAAHHHHHHH!
Question 1 – Why did we not get one call from AGL to tell us what their problems were with our account?
Question 2 – How can they not inform a client that they cannot transfer a property to their billing service?
Question 3 – Who polices all this? – we have been getting regular readings done and 17mths of electricity without paying anybody… who was going to chase us?
Question 4 – Are we on some bad debt list we don’t know about regardless of trying to pay someone for 17mths? Wouldn’t put it past AGL to suddenly decide we owe them money.
Pleeeeeease be over soon. Looking forward to our 17mth old bill for electricity… NOT
I got letters from AGL, one letter saying that I have been undercharged due to an incorrect gas meter reading. In total they sent me 4 letters, each letter was explaining the amount i owe them over the period of one year since april 2008. The latest date letter was my total amount due, a shocking $6239.81. Anyone has the same problem as me? I live in haymarket, sydney 2000.
I believe all of you need to sit back and think about your complaints.
Firstly, if you have been billed for the wrong address, this is a clerical error and is usually resolved quickly as I have experienced the same issue. Patience is a quality that the creator of this website should look at employing. Did you get disconnected? Did it affect your credit at all? The answer to this would be no, therefore a more reasonable person would understand people make errors.
Secondly, if you haven’t received a bill for some time, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU COMPLAIN?????? Is there something wrong with you? If you had any sense at all, you would put money aside based on your average cost per quarter, and I know for a fact that if AGL haven’t issued a bill for 1 year, they are obliged to give you 1 YEAR to pay it off.
Thirdly, why is it AGL’s responsibility to chase people who DON’T PAY THEIR BILLS?? It is your responsibility to ensure your bills are paid and if you don’t pay them for a SUBSTANTIAL amount of time, the details are passed onto a collection agency. If you FORGOT to pay your last bill, how is AGL at fault??
I would like to summarise by saying there are much more important things to worry about than your gas and electricity bills. If this is what consumes your thoughts, then you all need to have serious think about the quality of your lives…
We never received the outstanding bill after we moved to new address. We actually did change the address with them. We also went and checked the old address for bills regularly. Now they have put it to collection agency and charging more than 50$ fine fee. Also we have no idea who the collection agency. They called at 10PM and asking us to give credit card number on phone and that they will charge less fee. How do we trust them? Also AGL never knew if it went to collection agency when we called, they said they are not sure if it has gone to collection agency. How do we trust the collection agency and pay them. It is actually a mistake of AGL. We are now going to call AGL and explain them that we wont pay fine and that we dont trust the collection agency.
I have no dealing, no contract, no agreement, no nothing at all with AGL. Yet, I received a “letter of intent” from AGL legal department claiming that there was an outstanding electricty account of $182,337.02. Yes, you read it right. The amount is more than one hundred and eighty two THOUSAND dollars!
The thing is I have a rental property which was being resumed by government. When the tenant moved out in early 2007, I immediately requested a disconncection of power with Energex in 2007 as the building was being resumed and demolished by government. Energex sent their technicians to the building in 2007. The building has been vacant since.
After more than 2 years later, AGL sent the so-called “letter of intent” claiming that as building owner, I am liable to pay all the power supply to the building, which has been accumulated to $182,337.02. AGL even threatened that if the payment is not made within 7 days, legal action will be taken and I will further be liable for the legal costs.
This is the only paper work I receive from AGL. In fact, I do not even know who or what was AGL before!
I received my first electricity bill after 7 months of waiting. The real problem is that I think it’s very expensive.
I live with my wife in a two rooms unit, and our consumption of energy is about average. The amount on the bill was $440 for two months, i.e. $200+ a month.
zomg, how i hate agl. it dumbfounds me how one call centre can be full of so many dumbasses, but maybe it’s not the staff, but the managers and the poor training that results in such stupidity. wrong information, wrong rates quoted, not responding to letters, stupid email form having character limits and then 500 errors when you go to send it…just one big ball of stupidness. so much time and energy wasted on dealing with them. will never ever go with agl again and will be telling anyone i know who are with them to jump ship.
Well i love AGL they are the best company ever! They have great customer service, and i get all my bills on time. They have cheap rates, and i couldn’t be happier with my energy company choice!
I just wanted to express how dissappointed I am with AGL’s service. I was bullied into signing up with AGL by a door to door salesperson at my last address. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to move address and cancel my account with AGL before my contract expired. Around 6 months later, I received a letter from a debt-collection agency claiming that I had not paid my final bill, and that I was required to immediately pay this plus a huge fee for the agency. I HAD paid this bill, and I had the evidence to back it up, so thankfully I was able to resolve this issue. But I am shocked that AGL would use such scare tactics to con people out of their money. Shame on you, AGL. How many other unsuspecting victims (ahem ‘customers’) have you tried to pull this on? You have been nothing but trouble from the start. I wish told the door to door salesman to get lost in the first place.
I know that this is an “anti” AGL website, but from my own experiences, these same problems that people have posted, I, and others I know, have gone through with other retailers, such as TRUenergy and Origin. I doubt my post will be displayed as it doesn’t quite fit the criteria as everyone elses, but at the end of the day, I think they’re all pretty much as bad as each other.
I am not in any way defending the company (they are a big company, no doubt, and can defend themselves), but I just thought I would share that these bill issues, disconnection issues and… well… most of these issues come from all the other companies also. It just so happens, that unlike most of the other companies, AGL is Australian.
Been a customer of Origin for over 6 years.. Didn”t get a bill for several months and then received 4 letters in December 2009 all posted on the same day from AGL advising we owe them over $2,300.00. The bills were addressed to The Householder. They didnt have our name as we NEVER transfered over to AGL. They stole our account. After several long phone calls and being left on hold and transfered to other people we have been getting the same response. “Do you want to transfer back to Origin?” Yes we do but first we want an explanation as to how we are now with AGL and why is the bill so indredibly high?? In January 2010 we received another bill advising that we now owe $5,077.00!!! and that increase is from December to January. Today we received a notice that we will be charged $75.00 as they have heard we want to terminate the account. Still not resolved after another hour on the phone to them today! We have now got the ombudsman on to it.
I am moving house so was supposed to get the final meter reading completed today after all the cleaning and uplift. Unfortunately the electricity meter is on the inside of the house near the front door. AGL sent an email confirming the final reading would be done on this day and the meter must be accessible. I’ve been frickin’ waiting since 8.30am in a house with no furniture, no food and when I called the customer service line at midday all she could tell me was their service hours were between 7.30am and 6.00pm. 9 and a half hours later from my day (which I took off work), no-one came. I can’t stress how much AGL sucks right now.
and another thing, just got a phone call from the real estate agent chasing me up for the keys and I’m being charged an extra night’s rent. Thanks a bunch AGL.
AGL are slimy i have been chasing a bill since 2008 and have been told numerous times that one will be sent out within 2 weeks never recieved anything from them until they demanded payment in July of 2009. I have no even recieved a bill or anything. It is now Feb of 2010 and i am still with out a resolution to the problem. Today also 2 years after I have been sent the first bill which my due is not addressed to me but to dear customer. Spoken to the ombudsmen and they in are completely there rights to charge me 2 years on cause they can produce a bill stating dear customer. What a load of shit. Never ever sign with AGL they really do suck

AGL does not suck, they just simply are dreaming.

How expensive and normal is that in Australia?

I pay my electricity through agl & have no problems at all. If I did I would just switch to another supplier. Get a life losers.
Boo!!
